Hello, and welcome to the ol' Horseshoe road, here I'll be showin'ya how people got around in the early 1800's!
In the early 1800's when you would visit popular towns in North America and Europe the most used transportation was the horse drawn Omnibus or cart or carriage set up for several people.
Advantages of the Horse drawn Omnibus
People soon started to realize that horses or mules could speed up travel and carry a heavier load, also with further experiments they found that putting the omnibus on iron or steel rails also sped it up a lot.
Disadvantages of the Horse drawn Omnibus
Some people tried to run Omnibus companies out of buisness so they tried to search for flaws and then found that using horses or mules could only let them run for so long. Eventually, they were required to own 8 to 10 horses or mules .
